Working as a live-in care assistant

If you are dedicated and passionate about making a real difference to people’s lives and want a career you can be proud of, this could be the role for you.

Our live-in care assistants provide each customer with a bespoke care experience tailored to their specific needs and preferences. The service gives customers the reassurance of 24 hour support in the comfort of their own homes. However, live in care workers are not expected to be continuously on duty for 24 hours, you will have pre-arranged rest periods each day.

This important role brings challenges as well as rewards. You will need patience, compassion and an ability to listen well, so you can support customers to stay in touch with the things that really matter to them, even on the difficult days.

Live-in Carer Basingstoke

"I have been working with Bluebird since January 2015. I was very happy to meet the owner of the company because his personality says a lot about the company ethos. John was very kind and helpful to us and we got all the support we needed to work efficiently.

For the first two years, I was a domiciliary carer and after that, I became a live-in carer. Being a domiciliary carer, I heard a lot about live-in carer work. The live-in care manager has always told me that when I want to switch, I should contact her because she is looking forward to welcoming me to the live-in carer team. So at one point, when I wanted to switch, I reached out to her.

At first, I got short-term replacement jobs. After around 6 months one of the live-in carers had to be replaced for a longer period and then I stayed there.

In live-in work, I always go with my supervisor to a new customer and she introduces us to each other. Before that, of course, I already get some information about the customer just like he or she does about me. Most of the time a family member is present who can help with important details. They will then guide you around the house, showing the important points and discussing what the client needs and what is important to me.

I like working with Bluebird Care. Here I get all the support I need. I am in constant contact with my supervisor and if I have any questions, we will sort it out somehow right away. I also really like the fact that there is always professional training that keeps my knowledge up to date. From my personal experience, this is a very important and useful thing for us.

I can remember, at first, when I didn't know how to call for an ambulance for real, for example, I got all the support. I mean, it is a completely different feeling to act in a stressful situation. My manager always asked me to talk to her if I feel I had to talk to them about what had happened. This is, for example, a very important factor for me because the customer feels good even if I'm fine. And I need to be able to stay calm in a difficult situation. So I think I am lucky with Bluebird Care and especially with Sammie, my supervisor. It is very important that the supervisor is a caring, helpful and kind person at a care company and I get this from Sammie. She regularly supervises me when we can talk about anything that bothers or just makes me happy about the customer."
