Why caring could be perfect for you

Emma, Barbara, Sally, and Kim tell us their stories about how and why they chose to come into care.

I have very much enjoyed working for Bluebird Care and have been supported 100 percent of the way. Everyone is very helpful and so friendly and I have gained so much more confidence in this job role with the support of all the staff. Its like being part of family. -Shannon Care assistant

Our care assistants are an exceptional group of people who all have fundamental attributes that make them great at what they do. The key skills needed to be a great care assistant can be taught and developed, but it’s these natural personal attributes that provide the ‘magic’ that makes an excellent care assistant. To work with Bluebird Care, it is essential that you have:

  • Genuine care for others: with empathy, compassion and a friendly approach

  • The ability to learn: with a positive attitude to taking on new skills and experiences

  • Great communication and listening skills: being able to keep calm and communicate clearly is vital

  • Loyalty: our best care assistants have an inherent loyalty to customers, with a strong work ethic and engagement with the Bluebird Care

  • Readiness to have fun: we work hard, but we firmly believe that having fun and enjoying our work sets us apart. There is a real sense of togetherness and team spirit at Bluebird Care

We recruit people who have the perfect blend of these special qualities and this means they can make a hugely positive difference to someone’s life. Previous experience is not essential as training is provided. Having access to transport and flexible availability is also advantageous.

Why Bluebird Care could be right for you

Many different people are suited to this role. A job with Bluebird Care offers superb flexibility, development and a real work-life balance. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a job with real heart and meaning, plus a good helping of laughter and fun too!

A role with purpose: some of our more mature care assistants come to us looking for a new challenge, a change of direction, or a second career. They may have cared for a loved one and found it deeply rewarding, or they just want to ‘give something back’ and do work with a real purpose.

A role with balance: other care assistants may have a family, with school age children, and are looking for rewarding work that flexes around their timetable. They tend to be very focused and extremely organised.

A role with prospects: people who feel that they were ‘born to care’ are often happy to fit around the different hours required for the role – such as breakfast or bedtime work and even live in care – and they often have a lifestyle that enables them to do so. They are keen to learn and enjoy the continuous training and career progression we offer.

Our care assistants talk about what a typical day might involve visiting customers in their own homes.

I've worked for 3 care companies over 6 years, and Bluebird is by far the best one for their staff, as well as their customers. They really care about the welfare of everyone involved in the organisation. I've made friends for life in the company, not just with my colleagues but with my customers too.
