Top tips for starting a career in care

Working for Bluebird Care Northallerton, Thirsk and Catterick gives you a tremendous sense of pride and work fulfilment.  Offering care and support to our vulnerable is extremely rewarding; even more so at a time when their reliance on help is even greater.  At a time like this, keeping our communities in their own homes is of paramount importance and now, more than ever we need to ensure we are flowing with caring people to make this happen.  We are committed to the safety and protection of our staff and customers and provide thorough training, guidance and equipment to ensure effective infection controls.

All of our Bluebird Care care assistants receive extensive training, delivered by our Live-in Care and Training Manager, Jules from our office just outside of Northallerton in Ainderby Steeple

We heard from two of our newest Bluebird Care assistants on their training days experience.

How did you find your training experience?

"It was fantastic. Jules went through everything thoroughly and explained everything very well. All the training was demonstrated very well given the Covid-19 restrictions. I felt comfortable and wasn't afraid to ask any questions, no matter how big or small."

"It’s been really good, I've really enjoyed it. I feel at ease and can tell I'll be supported. The training is a massive improvement compared to the training I received at my previous care company. I can tell that Bluebird Care care for their staff just as much as the customers."

How do you feel now that you’ve experienced your training?

"I've completed two days of training and have two more days to go. I feel confident and competent going into the role."

"I feel confident that I can do it, and I feel reassured that it’s ok to call the office for support."

What tips would you give new Bluebird Care assistants coming for their training?

"Take notes down and keep an open mind. Take on board everything that’s said and expect the unexpected - it's very eye opening."

"To be open and honest. Be open about what care experience you have; it won't hinder you if you don't have any care experience as you receive full training."
