What Qualifications do I Need?

Being a care assistant is incredibly rewarding. But if you are considering it as a career, what qualifications are needed to be a care worker?

When it comes to being a carer, no two days are the same, giving you the opportunity to create excellent relationships whilst making a genuine change in people’s lives. As a care assistant, you will be responsible for the well-being of many people, so being kind-hearted, level-headed and reliable is crucial.

Although being a carer can be challenging at times, it’s an extremely rewarding career path and helps you develop lifelong skills and form wonderful relationships.

The most important thing to consider when thinking about a career path as a carer is whether it’s the right choice for you. If you love meeting new people and want to make a difference in people’s lives, and are curious about what qualifications carers should have, then please read on.

What qualifications do I need to become a care worker?

There is no one official qualification needed to be a carer, but there are several options that you can undertake to be ready for what the job entails.

The most important things required for a successful carer career is that you are willing to learn and are a compassionate individual who wants to help others. It’s beneficial for you to have basic first aid training, but as long as you are passionate about the industry and want to support people that need care at home, that’s a good starting point. Previous work experience in a care-based role is also highly advantageous, and voluntary experience is also favourable.

We provide full training for our positions; however, a relevant industry qualification is a bonus as it shows that you have the dedication to the sector and understand the expectations of the role.

Helpful qualifications:

  • Health and Social Care Diploma
  • NVQ in Health and Social Care
  • Levels 1, 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care
