Bluebird Care (Bedford) is a home care franchise owned and managed by husband and wife team, Doug and Karen Orbell.
Doug is an IT professional with many years’ experience of management and customer service and Karen is a qualified nurse and brings over 33 years’ experience of health and social care management. As Franchise Principle, Karen is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Bedford office.
Doug and Karen decided to become Bluebird Care home care franchise owners because they believe in ‘good old fashioned’ service and they want to be able to provide the same kind of excellent quality home care services they would want for their own family and friends.
They understand that in order to do this they need to be totally committed to selecting and appointing the very best kind, caring and motivated staff who are given extensive and continued training to provide high quality and safe care.
Doug and Karen believe that by creating a care service whereby their customers can live as independently as possible it will become highly valued as a local business that contributes to the local and rural Bedford community.
I fell into adult social care by accident, I had previous experience of working with children and hoped to continue to do so, but landed myself a job at Bluebird Care Bedford and loved it! I have found working with adults to be a lot more rewarding than I thought it would be.
I attended one of the recruitment open days and had a chat with Karen, the franchise owner, who offered me the job on the spot. I started as a care assistant and over the last three years I have worked my up through the company and in February 2016 I was appointed registered care manager.
I really enjoy working for Bluebird Care Bedford and would recommend them to anyone looking for a new, rewarding career.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my four children, going on holidays and day trips. I also like ghost hunting, going to concerts and reading – when I get a chance!
I fell into working in the care industry, I was previously a Dental nurse and found that I wasn’t getting job satisfaction from it, so I was looking for something different. I had taken some time out of work after a close family member had passed away, after seeing the care they received it made me want to work in care.
To begin with I wasn’t sure how I would get on working in care, but straight away I fell in love with it. I really enjoy my job, it’s such a great feeling knowing you have put a smile on someone’s face and made a difference in their life.
I started working for Bluebird Care at the same time as another colleague. We were given a personal recommendation to join Bluebird Care, they said what a great company it is to work for. One thing that really stood out to me, still to this day, is the level and quality of training that all staff have. It was by far the best training I have ever received.
I have recently been promoted to trainee supervisor and I’m really enjoying my role so far, I didn’t realise how much the office and management team do until I joined them.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, going on day trips with husband and son. I also enjoy going to the cinema and eating out with friends and family. And when I get the time I really enjoy baking!
Joined Bluebird Care Bedford in September 2018 as Trainee Field Supervisor.
Tara had previously worked for Bluebird Care Bedford for two years as a care assistant.
I chose to work in the care industry when my parents bought the Bedford franchise back in 2013, this gave me an opportunity to start a career in care. I had been interested in working within the Health and Social care industry for a number of years, after studying health and social care in college, but hadn’t pursued it. This was the perfect opportunity for me to start at the bottom and work my way up through the business and learn the industry at the same time. I was looking to start a career rather than have just a job.
I enjoying helping people, making someone smile, and knowing at the end of the day I made a difference in someone’s life.
Outside of work I have an active social life, often going out for meals with friends and regularly attending local music events and festivals. I also enjoy cooking, watching films and traveling. I have recently returned from traveling in Asia and Australia
Before coming to Bluebird Care I worked in the NHS and private healthcare sector for many years mostly doing admin, HR and project work. I only started working as a frontline healthcare worker after my mother passed away. I helped look after her during her final months and this lead me to want to continue helping people after she passed.
Bluebird Care Bedford helped me to look after my mum in her final few months. I was very impressed with the company and the staff.
I really enjoy working for Bluebird Care Bedford and I have some very special and lovely colleagues.
Outside of work I enjoy going walking with my dog and spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy travelling and spent 6 months in 2016 living in Spain.
I chose to work in the care industry to help and care for others, to give people respect and dignity in their lives. To also make people smile, laugh and feel they always have someone to listen to their stories, and to just be there when a helping hand is needed.
Bluebird Care Bedford has the best reputation within the local area as a professional care company that centres care around the individual and their needs. They also provide excellent support and training to their staff which has allowed me to expand my knowledge and develop within areas of care that I am passionate about. I had only been at Bluebird Care Bedford for just over a year and they gave me a promotion to palliative care champion and I have now been promoted again to Trainee Field Supervisor, an opportunity that I’m very grateful for.
Bluebird Care Bedford is a family of exceptional carers and I am proud to say I am a part of it.
When I’m not working I’m known as ‘the crazy cat lady’ as I have 9 cats! I love reading, going to the theatre and spending time with my daughters and friends.
I chose to work in the care sector because I am a caring person. I like to help people no matter how big or small the task is. I genuinely care about my customers and it is very rewarding being able to make a difference in their lives.
I had applied for care assistant job with another care company when a friend of mine, who worked at Bluebird Care Bedford at the time recommended that I come along meet with them. I was offered the job and since then I have been promoted to dementia care champion, which is a subject that I am very passionate about.
Outside of work I enjoy walking my dogs, going to the gym, reading, going out with friends and spending time with my family.
Michele joined Bluebird Care (Bedford) in March 2015. She was promoted to Falls Prevention Care Champion in September 2017.
