Vanessa's Story

I started working in the care industry in 2005 after studying Psychology and Sociology and became interested in Mental Health. I worked within a Care Unit for Mental Health patients who had various mental health issues. An area of care I really enjoyed and believe in a greater education to stop the stigma that still exists within society today.

Following my work within Mental Health I began work for Age UK as a home help and assessor and remained with Age UK for 7 years.

I joined Bluebird Care in October 2015 after leaving Age UK. I wanted to be more involved in the personal side of care and the personal planning of peoples support. I chose Bluebird Care Bedford as I felt this was a step up in my career. Bluebird Care have provided me with excellent training in the many aspects of care. Bluebird Care have allowed me to develop within areas of care that are passionate to me and I have recently become the Palliative Care Champion, I am very grateful to Bluebird Care Bedford for sending me on the relevant training courses to allow my development within this area.

I started working in the care industry because when I was younger I lived with my Grandmother and as she got older she needed more care and I became her main caregiver, I ensured on a daily basis that she had dignity, respect and all the love that I could give her and I believe that everyone deserves those simple rights and if I can make a difference for others even if it is as simple as making a cup of tea or just listening then life feels just that bit nicer and that’s what motivates me.

I enjoy meeting people, learning about their wonderful stories, which I feel privileged to hear.  I enjoy making people’s lives. who need care and support, just that bit easier and ensuring that they remain as independent and within their own homes for as long as possible.  I enjoy being part of a team, a team with the same goals and a team that really does care about all individuals and respects everybody as a unique individual.

Bluebird Care knows everyone of their customer’s needs, wishes and preferences they are not just a name on a computer and Bluebird Care Bedford are in contact with all their customers to ensure that their needs and wishes are being met on a daily basis. Bluebird Care Bedford are passionate about their high level of staff training so each customer receives the best level of care and support, as all staff are trained and are spot checked on a regular basis.
