Why I became a care assistant

At Bluebird Care Bedford, our care assistants are the heart of our business. These stories from our team explain why they chose to work in homecare, and allows you an insight into their day-to-day lives as a care assistant.

“My dad used to receive care at home and one day I had to go and help him. As I was helping him back into bed he said to me that I was better than the carers that would come in to help him and maybe I should become a care assistant. I realised whilst helping with Dad’s care that I had found my calling and I changed careers overnight!

“I became a care assistant after helping to look after my mum. I am a really patient person and I really enjoy making someone’s day.”

“I have always worked in care because I like helping people. I really enjoy getting to know people & this job gives me the opportunity to get to know our customers and hear all of their amazing stories! “Bluebird Care Bedford is the best care company I have ever worked for! I feel very supported by the rest of the care assistant team as well the management team.”

“Growing up around nurses and other health care professionals meant that I knew what I wanted to do from a young age. I enjoy helping people and making a difference in someone else’s life, being a Care Assistant lets me do that every day.”

“I became a care assistant at Bluebird Care Bedford because they used to look after my mum in her final few weeks. I had been looking after mum for 18 months and after she passed away I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I came along to a recruitment open day to find out more about being a care assistant. I had a chat with Karen, MD, who offered me an interview on the spot and I was then offered the role later that day! This job is nothing like the previous jobs I have done before, which were office based admin roles. I was very nervous when I first started but the amazing training I received and the support of the really lovely team made it enjoyable and fell in love with the job! After working as a Care Assistant for a number of years I have pursued my own career goals and I am now working as part of the office team as the Office Administrator.”

“I was always a little bit nervous starting a carer role. It was something I didn't think would be for me. Starting at Bluebird Care really changed my mind about working in care, it built my confidence. The Bluebird team really are a great team to work with, everyone is always so friendly and definitely helpful, and not just the team the customers are lovely and always just as helpful.  I'm glad I joined the team ❤”

“When I started at Bluebird Care Bedford I was new to care. Everyone made me feel so welcome and part of the team straight away. I love my job it really is rewarding to know that you are making such a difference to someone’s day and life.  I love being out in the community as no day is the same. The team of girls I work with are so lovely and I wouldn’t want to work with anyone else. I always feel supported and if I ever need to talk to any of them they are always there.”
