Bluebird Care Gave me Purpose

At Bluebird Care, we value every member of our team. They are at the heart of everything we do. After all, our staff enable us to provide for our customers.

This is just one of many inspiring stories from one of our current employees.

I joined Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees in September 2021 as a university graduate. I graduated from Huddersfield University during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning the entirety of my final year was solely online – Teams meetings became the new lectures and seminars.

Undoubtedly, this was quite a difficult period for me and other students in the same situation. Just as I was gearing up for my work experience placement for my second year, the pandemic hit. The world was sent into lockdown and my work experience was thrown out of the window completely.

Progressing into my final year, with very little work experience to mention (I had worked in a few cafés and shops during the odd summer here and there), I knew it would be extremely difficult for me to find work. However, Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees were hiring for a part-time Social Media Assistant. The role required no previous experience as it was a kick-start programme – a government funded scheme aimed at 18 – 25 year-olds in similar situations like mine.

A person with long hairDescription automatically generated with medium confidenceI progressed within my field very quickly, gaining a full-time contract at the end of my six-month placement. I am now the Social Media and Administration Officer for Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees and will be heading into my second year in the role in September 2022.

My job is very rewarding and I’m so lucky to have found Bluebird when I did. My role today includes social media management, digital marketing, and administration. It is a role I feel is everything I was looking for and more. Walking into the job centre as a young university graduate was difficult and daunting but working with Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees has taught me so many things and I have never had such a broad and vast skillset. I wanted more than just a job – I wanted to do something meaningful and impactful, something influential and inspiring.

I believe I achieve this every day here at Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees.

I was lucky enough to see us win the Employer of the Year Award 2021 and I truly believe it was well deserved. Narinder Gill, owner of Bluebird Care Wakefield and Kirklees, is very passionate about the services we provide – enabling elderly and vulnerable people to remain in the comfort of their own home whilst receiving the high-quality care that they deserve – and it’s this love for her field and all that it represents that makes me believe I am truly a part of something great.

If you’re looking for a more than just a job – to be a part of a team that values its staff and its customers beyond all expectations – I would highly recommend getting in touch with Bluebird.

We would love to have you on our team!
