Children and young person's Support Worker – Complex Needs

Children & Young Person's Support Worker (Complex and Additional Needs) Bluebird Care Mid & West Cornwall £13.46 to £13.66 an hour Full-time, permanent Evenings, weekends and school holidays, with some school hours available Hayle and Leedstown, Indian Queens, and Camborne and Redruth Bluebird Care Mid & West Cornwall supports people to stay safe and well in their own homes across Mid and West Cornwall. Our children's service supports children and young people with complex or additional needs at home and out in their community, so they feel understood and cared for, and their families get consistency they can rely on. Role Overview You will provide one-to-one support to a small number of children and young people, working to their care plan and at their pace. That might be personal care and daily routines, communication, building confidence, or simply being alongside them at a club, at the beach or on the school run. The work for this role sits in three areas: Hayle and Leedstown, Indian Queens, and Camborne and Redruth. All three sit close to the A30, so if you live in or around Camborne or Redruth you will spend less time driving and more time with the children and young people you support. For the child or young person, you are a familiar face who knows how they like things done. For their family, you are the reason they can go to work, spend time with their other children, or sleep properly. Very few jobs give you that much say in how someone's week goes. Key Responsibilities You are the person a child sees week in, week out: Supporting children and young people with complex or additional needs Helping with personal care, daily routines and mealtimes Supporting communication, confidence and independence Going out to community activities, clubs and social outings Providing calm, consistent and person-centred support Following care plans and keeping clear, accurate records Working closely with families, schools and the wider care team The list above is the job on paper. A lot of it happens out of the house: the beach at Gwithian, a walk on the coast path, chips in Hayle, a favourite club or a trip to the cinema. Care Experts in this team have come from nurseries, SEN teaching assistant roles, youth work, respite and short breaks, foster care, sports coaching, playwork, and from raising a child with additional needs themselves. If you have had a varied career, that counts for more with us, not less. What we cannot teach is patience and the instinct to stay calm when a child is having a hard time. How we will grow you You will start with a full paid induction and shadow shifts with someone who already knows the child you will be supporting. From there you will get specialist training in the areas your role needs, communication, autism, epilepsy awareness, moving and handling and more. We have regular supervision so you have somewhere to bring the hard days as well as the good ones. Our TDDI complex care service supports customers with complex health needs at home, with clinical oversight from our own Registered Nurse. Role Overview We are looking for a female Waking Night Care Assistant to support one customer with complex care needs in Crantock. You will be awake and attentive through the night, so that our customer is safe, comfortable and properly looked after at home. Nights are the hardest part of living with complex needs. Having the same calm, familiar person there through them changes what the night feels like. This is a role where you get to know one person really well, and where the quality of your attention matters far more than the number of tasks you get through. This is a role for someone who has done complex care before, for a year or more. Overnight and on your own, you need to walk in already knowing what you are looking at. The calm and the consistency are the parts we cannot teach, and they matter here more than anything. Key Responsibilities You are the person our customer relies on overnight: Waking night support in our customer's own home, awake and alert throughout Personal care, given with dignity and respect PEG feeding Suctioning Repositioning and settling our customer comfortably Watching for changes in comfort, breathing and wellbeing, and acting on them Responding calmly whenever our customer needs you Keeping clear, accurate records and handing over anything the wider team needs to know You will be the only person in the house overnight, so our customer needs to know they can rely on you. This role sits in our TDDI complex care service, where small, consistent teams support customers with complex health needs at home, at school and out in the community. Role Overview You will be part of a 2:1 team supporting one young person with complex health and communication needs. You will work with them at home, alongside them in school, and out in the community, across term time and school holidays. Key Responsibilities You are part of the team around one young person: Supporting them with personal care, practical tasks and emotional wellbeing Supporting them at home, in school and out in the community Reading body language and using their alternative communication, so they are understood Supporting with PEG feeding and suctioning, once you are trained Following the care plan closely and keeping clear, accurate records Promoting their safety, independence and choice in everyday decisions Working alongside family, school staff and health professionals Getting to know our customer well is a key part of the role. It helps you notice changes in their health or mood early, and support them consistently at home, at school and in the community. What you get We have 20 to 37 hours a week available, across term time and school holidays. You will be trained thoroughly before you start. All specialist skills, including PEG feeding and suctioning, are taught by our clinical trainers and signed off before you work unsupervised. Our support work service matches each customer with a regular, trusted Support Worker who helps them get out, try new things and live the life they choose. Role Overview We are looking for a Support Worker to spend 6 hours a week with an autistic young man who loves photography, and whose real passion is transport, especially trains. Your other 4 hours will be with a second young person we support. (We have other support worker hours if you are looking for full time hours) This role is not about doing things for him. It is about promoting his independence, being a steady, familiar person he can trust, and sharing time doing things he genuinely enjoys. That might be a trip to watch the trains, a day out with his camera, or planning a journey together. The right person will help him feel safe, understood and confident to do more for himself. Key Responsibilities You will be his regular Support Worker, working alongside him, the people close to him and our team: Plan and enjoy activities together that build on his love of trains, transport and photography Support him to get out and about safely, including travelling by train or bus when he wants to Follow his support plan and get to know his routines, how he communicates and what helps him feel calm Promote his independence with everyday skills, at a pace that suits him Keep clear, simple notes of each visit and share anything important with the office Work closely with the people who know him best so his support stays consistent The best days in this role will not feel like work.
