When I started working in care, I had no idea where it might lead.
I wasn't following a carefully planned career path. I simply wanted to do a job well.
Looking back, the biggest turning points in my career all came from saying yes to opportunities that felt just outside my comfort zone.
Some of the biggest opportunities in my career came before I felt fully prepared for them.
I began my career as a Care Assistant before moving into a Coordinator role. As I gained experience, I started to see there was far more to social care than I had ever realised.
Every new role introduced me to another part of the organisation and another opportunity to learn.
From Lead Coordinator and Special Projects Manager to Live-in Manager and Senior Manager, each step helped me develop new skills and a better understanding of how great care is delivered.
The more I experienced, the more I realised that social care isn't just one career.
It's an industry with opportunities in leadership, operations, partnerships, workforce development and business growth, all connected by one shared purpose: helping people live well at home.
I quickly realised there were far more opportunities than many people assume. Every new experience opened another door.
Throughout my career, I've been fortunate to work with leaders who trusted me to take on new challenges before I thought I was ready.
Their encouragement gave me the confidence to keep learning, ask questions and develop skills I never expected to use.
Today, I'm Head of Partnerships & Development, working across multiple Bluebird Care offices to strengthen relationships with local communities, healthcare professionals and partner organisations.
No two days are the same.
One day I might be meeting with community groups to improve access to care. The next, I'm working with healthcare partners to strengthen local services or identifying new opportunities to support more people to remain independent at home.
It's a role that combines relationship building, strategic thinking and a deep understanding of how care services can support local communities.
Looking back, I realise my career wasn't built by having all the answers.
It was built by staying curious, being willing to learn and taking opportunities when they came along.
Social care can take you in directions you never expected. If you're open to learning and willing to step outside your comfort zone, there's no telling where your career could lead.
