What our team say about Bluebird Care
At Bluebird Care Totton, our care assistants are the heart of our business, and we pride ourselves on providing our staff with rewarding careers, ongoing support and benefits.
But, don't just take our word for it...below you can read Maggie's story about how she has grown and advanced in her career with us.
Tell us about your background and journey into domiciliary care.
My name is Maggie, and I'm currently a Care Supervisor at Bluebird Care Totton. Before joining Bluebird Care, I spent 15 years working in learning disability care. I initially started at Bluebird Care as a Care Assistant, bringing with me my Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care. Since then, I’ve grown and advanced my career within the company.
What led you to join Bluebird Care, and how long have you been part of the team?
After working in learning disability care since the age of 22, I felt it was time for a change. I wanted to take on a new challenge, particularly in caring for older adults, which was a new area for me. I've been with Bluebird Care Totton for over three and a half years, working in various roles during that time.
What does a typical day look like for you as a Care Supervisor at Bluebird Care?
My day involves managing a team of care assistants, ensuring they are supported in their roles. I also oversee a caseload of customers, making sure they have comprehensive, person-centred care plans tailored to their needs. This includes conducting regular care reviews to stay updated on any changes in their care requirements. I also onboard new customers and share information about the exceptional services we provide at Bluebird Care and how we can best support them if they need care.
What kind of training and support have you received since joining Bluebird Care?
Since joining, I've participated in pre-employment & annual refresher training, which is crucial as care policies, laws, and regulations are always evolving. I’ve also received specialised training in Dignity & Respect, which helped me advance to a Care Champion role. While at Bluebird Care, I completed my NVQ Level 3 in Adult Health and Social Care, achieving a distinction. The company offers plenty of opportunities for further study and additional training for those who wish to progress.
What do you find most rewarding about your role?
The most rewarding part of my job is creating detailed, person-centred care plans that lead to happy customers. It’s fulfilling to know that our care assistants have the right guidance to deliver the high standard of care that every customer deserves.
What do you think sets Bluebird Care apart from other care providers?
At Bluebird Care, we hold ourselves to the highest standards. We prioritise compliance and strive to stay at the forefront of best practices in the industry, ensuring professionalism in everything we do. What truly sets us apart is our focus on the customer. We're dedicated not just to providing care, but to enhancing the overall quality of life for each individual we support.
How do you see your career progressing with Bluebird Care?
I’m eager to continue growing in my current role and building my confidence along the way. In the long term, my goal is to advance to a lead care supervisor position. I'm always open to further training, especially in areas like dementia care, as the field is constantly evolving. I find it fascinating to keep learning and staying up to date with the latest developments.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in domiciliary care?
My advice is to enter the care sector with genuine passion and a strong commitment to helping others. Success in domiciliary care depends on your dedication, willingness to learn, and a true desire to make a difference in people's lives. If you're driven by these values, you'll find this career incredibly rewarding.
