Nothing other than care – Sarah's story

I started working in the Care Industry at the age of 18 before joining Bluebird when I was 21. I know nothing other than Care, as I have worked in the industry since since leaving school.

Before working for Bluebird Care Newcastle, Sarah worked in a few different care settings. She carried out work experience for her Health and Social Care Diploma in a Care Home and then worked in Day Centres and another Care Home before joining Bluebird Care in 2016 at the age of 21.

The difference I found from working at Bluebird Care delivering Home Care compared to my previous roles in a Care Home was huge. I feel as though Home Care is more person centred care, 1 person has your full attention and the care is on a personal basis

Sarah completed her Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care after leaving school. The skills she gained from the Diploma gave her the theory which helped her in her role as a Care Assistant as it gave her the knowledge and know how behind the practical tasks she was carrying out.

The experience Sarah gained from working with other Care companies in the Industry combined with the knowledge gained from her Diploma made her move to Bluebird Care seamless. She became an integral part of the team instantly. She was able to apply all of her past experience into doing a fantastic job for our customers by delivering outstanding levels of care.

I’m confident in my ability to meet our customers care needs. Knowing that I am able to make a difference by making our customers comfortable and safe in their home makes the job so much easier, it is such a rewarding career and I love that side of it.

After working as a Care Assistant for about 18 months Sarah successfully applied for a Team Leader position which became available due to the company’s expansion and need for its services. She was in this role for about 2 years before her move to her current role as a Care Supervisor.

Now that Sarah’s is a Care Supervisor her primarily role is not to deliver care to our customers, however she does still do it when required. Her current role in the business means she is still regularly visiting customers homes but to carry our observations and reviews. It is important she builds strong relationship with both the care staff and the customer to ensure all needs ae being met. She works closely with other health care professionals such as GP’s, Speech and Language teams and Occupational Therapists to form a holistic care package which covers needs outside of our services.

I miss delivering care on a regular basis because of the connection I made with our customer, you make some real friends doing this job and I care for them a lot

She has always worked in Care Industry from a young age and this probably stemmed from caring for family members in particular her sister. This inspired her to pursue a career in care and made her know she had the skills and capability of making a difference.
