Our Recruitment Process

Although we strive to onboard new team members promptly, please be aware that our recruitment process may take between 3 to 4 weeks – to ensure all training needs & compliance is met.

Step one: Interview Process

We aim to schedule in-person interviews for all eligible candidates to facilitate interaction with our team. Following the interview, we aim to provide feedback within a day. Successful candidates will receive an offer letter detailing the proposed shift pattern & all other terms of the offer, with the next step being a DBS check application.

Step two: DBS Checks & References

Your employment offer is contingent upon a completed DBS application and two satisfactory work references & one character reference. The cost of the DBS check, £58.40 for new starters, will be reimbursed after a successful 3-month probation. Bluebird Care will cover the cost of renewing your DBS when it expires. Both DBS checks and references can take time, contributing to the 3–4-week recruitment timeline.

Step three: Pre-employment Training

All new starters, regardless of prior experience, must attend our comprehensive 3-day pre-employment training course. Covering essential topics such as medication handling, basic life support/CPR, and safeguarding, the training ensures confidence in the field. Training falls on alternate weekends on a Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 08.45-17.00.

Step four: Shadow Shifts

New starters will have a minimum of five shadow shifts with experienced care assistants to show you the ropes. Additional shadow shifts can be arranged upon request of yourself or at the advice of the branch manager.

Step five: Start of Probation Period

Upon completing training and shadow shifts, you'll begin working independently in the field, subject to a 12-week probation period. Weekly supervisions and observations by our office team will monitor your progress. During probation, you'll also complete a care certificate. Successful probation completion leads to increased hourly rates and opportunities for further education, including NVQs in Health and Social Care.
