Training at Bluebird Care (Medway)

At Bluebird Care (Medway) we are committed to providing our customers with the very best care  within our customer’s homes. To do this, we believe that our Care Assistants have to be trained to the highest level.

Induction Training

Our Induction programme is completed by all new members of staff regardless of their experience.
Our induction programme lasts 5 -7 days depending upon our trainees. We are very responsive to our new members of staff and we cover the subjects at a pace and style that suits them. We have a blended approach to learning. This means that our training includes practical sessions, knowledge sessions, videos and a state of the art e-learning platform.

Subjects covered in our induction programme include;

The Care Certificate - we use the The Care Certificate as a basis for our training programme,

  • Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults/ Adults and Children
  • Safe Handling Of Medication
  • Basic First Aid Awareness
  • Moving and Handling ( Theory and Practical)

  • End Of Life Care
  • Mental Capacity Act
  • Record Keeping
  • Challenging Behaviour
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Pressure Area Care
  • Continence Care
  • Diabetes Awareness
  • Epilepsy Awareness
  • COVID19 Awareness 

Continued Training:

Mandatory training subjects include; Medication Administration, Moving and Handling People, Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Infection Control.  They are required to be completed every year. This ensures our staff are kept up to date with latest policies, procedures and legislation. It also give our management team a chance to check that our staff are working in a safe and appropriate manner and for our staff to provide feedback and ask any questions they may have around the individual subjects.

We also offer one off training sessions such as the Virtual Dementia Tour, which is an immersive experience and gives the trainees and an idea of what it is like to have mid-stage Dementia.

Management Training:

All of our management team receive training in Safeguarding, MCA, Health and Safety and GDPR. Other training our management team receive is often role specific, for example we have staff who have completed Train the Trainer course’s, so they are qualified to deliver our training sessions. The Co-ordinator has received Roster training from our Franchise Support Centre, so she is trained on our systems. to complete our customers and staff's weekly rotas.  We also attend courses such as Oral health and hydration,

Our supervisors and operational team also complete the same training programme as our Care Assistants so they are up to date with relevant skills in order to ensure our customers are provided with the very best care and support.

External Providers:

We source our training from a number of sources. This includes the local NHS teams who deliver sessions on Peg Feeding training and cough assist training.  We also have training externally for tissue viability, catheter care, stoma care, oral health and hydration
