Meet Dana – our Recruitment Manager

Care Jobs in Lambeth, Clapham and Streatham

I'm always looking out for that ‘golden nugget’, I build a relationship with each person that comes to join us, ensuring we bring only the best to the business.

I love what I do! I have always enjoyed meeting new people so being a recruiter is ideal for me.

Finding out about people and listening to their stories all helps in my decision-making to choose the right people for Bluebird Care. We have the reputation of being the best, not only for the way we care for our customers but also for the way we care for our team.

I’m really proud to be a part of that.

The most satisfying part of my job is finding the right person, someone who really wants to care and make a positive difference to others, and then watching them blossom in the role.

Looking for wonderful Care Assistants is a very personal experience for me and I love finding hidden talents in people. I call it ‘panning for gold’!

The initial qualities I look for are politeness, genuine interest in the role and a good command of English.  You don’t have to have experience as a professional carer to become a Bluebird Care Assistant, but perhaps you’ve looked after your parents or other relatives or worked as a volunteer.

All this counts towards the years’ experience we look for. Becoming a Care Assistant is not something that only training can create.  Candidates must take a real interest in helping others and want to make a difference to someone else’s life, enabling them to stay at home in familiar surroundings, with dignity.

I find that usually, once I start to speak to someone, I can quickly tell if they might be a good fit. I look for someone with a positive attitude, who has a warm personality and a ‘can do’ attitude.

When I find the right person - because I’ve got to know them so well - I get a real sense of pride to see them working in a role they really enjoy and I feel confident that our customers will like this person as much as I do.  It gives me an enormous boost that on each visit to the office I can see their confidence growing as they become vital and respected members of our team.

I remember one lady who, having finished her initial training, was extremely nervous when she first started working.  She came to me after two visits to her first customer and told me that it was the best decision she’d ever made.  I knew she’d be a natural and she was.  That’s what I love!

It gives me such great job satisfaction that the ladies and gentlemen that I first chatted to by phone, email and at recruitment events are making such a difference to so many people’s lives.
